About Thomas J Powell
Dr. Thomas J. Powell is a reputed and successful financier with extensive experience in commercial banking, private equity, alternative asset management, corporate governance, finance, and legal strategy. Over the years, he has built a solid reputation for successfully raising institutional and private capital, delving into credit risk and investment analysis, portfolio management, risk mitigation, deal structure, and distressed debt recovery.
Career Highlights
Dr Thomas J. Powell’s career began in 1988 at Wells Fargo Bank in Silicon Valley, where he was recognized as the youngest Vice President in the company’s 140-year history. He later founded and successfully developed Resolute Capital Partners (RCP), an alternative asset investment firm specializing in managing and implementing capital across various sectors, including oil and gas, commercial real estate, and innovative venture start-ups. His extensive experience and rich education have enabled him to lead many organizations through cyclical market growths and contractions, achieving increased profitability. Powell has a clear understanding of the practical application of money management as a risk response to Wall Street and beyond.
Business Acumen and Entrepreneurial Vision
Thomas J. Powell LP.D is renowned for his business acumen and entrepreneurial vision. Drawing from his extensive corporate experience at Wells Fargo, Powell responded to his entrepreneurial instincts by founding ELP Capital, Inc., a mortgage banking investment company headquartered in Reno, NV. During this time, he served as Senior Managing Director for ELP Capital Advisors, an affiliated investment company and Registered Investment Advisor for the ELP Capital Family of Institutional Investors, Funds, and qualified individuals.
In addition to managing ELP, Powell co-authored “Six Secrets of Raising Start-Up Capital,” an academic program and master class that provides a fundraising medium for small business owners. The program distills vital lessons learned from raising over $2 billion in startup capital into practical strategies for successful business ventures.
Thomas is also passionate about international trade and free enterprise. He has served as an international instructor and guest lecturer at Harvard University’s Office of Executive Education. Moreover, he has been actively involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America for over 40 years, serving as an Executive Committee leader, local board member, and National Trustee.
Leisure Activities
Outside of his professional endeavors, Thomas J. Powell enjoys skiing and often visits his favorite hometown resort, NorthStar, or other captivating ski destinations. An outdoor enthusiast, he is also an avid cyclist and a professional ski instructor at Vail Resorts.
